Late 2025 and my current listens

It's been a few months since my last post, so I'll tell you how I ended my listening year. I did a big reread of the Alpha and Omega series, by Patricia Briggs, which I've read many times.

Here's how it happens: I have a short road trip coming up and I'm in between audiobooks. I think to myself, "I'll just reread the Alpha and Omega novella. That's the prefect length." Then I listen to it. Then I dive back into the whole series and read or listen to every book that comes after. This is my way.

Most of the audio titles are available on Libby, including the first one, the novella Alpha and Omega. Only the most recent three of the series (books 4, 5, and 6) are available on CD in the library system. Briggs writes two urban fantasy series about werewolves and shapeshifters, Mercy Thompson and Alpha and Omega. These series can be read independently of each other, but the characters overlap, and it's more fun to read them in order. Ignore the graphic novels on that list--they're not that great.

Both series are action-packed and have lots of romance, but Alpha and Omega has romantic payoff sooner than Mercy does. Books with werewolf characters are among my favorites, and this series is at the top of my list. There are plenty of other supernatural characters in the mix, including witches, vampires, zombies, etc., but the werewolves and a coyote shapeshifter make up the core characters.

My current read is The Strength of the Few, by James Islington, read by Euan Morton. It's the second in the dystopian Hierarchy series, and Morton does a wonderful job. Unfortunately, this book and the first in the series, The Will of the Many, are only available on Audible if you want the audio. So if you have Audible, check out The Will of the Many, and if you don't, there's another title read by Euan Mortan that is in the library system on CD and on Libby-- Jim Butcher's The Aeronaut's Windlass. I love this steampunk novel--I've read it twice. You can currently find the print copies of The Will of the Many and The Strength of the Few on the shelves in the lobby with our Lucky Day books.

Happy new year, and happy reading!

Sounds Good is a regular series from Emily about all things audiobooks. If you want to go back and view posts from our previous website, you'll find them (and all the other posts from 2023-2024) on this page. Here's the very first post.
