Soul Food Monologues by Forward Theatre

Tuesday, April 18, 2017 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Join us for an evening of delicious performances, sponsored in part by Beyond the Page. Professional actors will perform five monologues about food, written exclusively for the Forward Theater Soul Food Monologue Festival. From a hilarious piece about a recipe for spiced nuts, to a moving struggle to find tolerance over Thanksgiving dinner, these monologues explore all the ways that food touches our lives. After the performance, a talkback will give the audience the opportunity to ask questions, and discuss the various topics these monologues have been written to address, all through the lens of "Soul Food."

-Beer is Food, by Sam White: A man faces a tough decision when his pregnant wife becomes sensitive to the smell of beer. Performed by Paul Milisch.

- Bitter Blind, by Karen Moeller: The (mostly) true story of a taste tester. Performed by Karen Moeller.

- Chocolate Lava Cake, by Jonathan Tarlin: When you’re sharing dessert, who gets the last bite? Performed by Jessica Witham.

- The Family Feast, by Derek Aimonetto: A man seeks common ground with his in-laws. Performed by R. Peter Hunt.

- Hot Nuts, by Kimberly Megna Yarnall: A man’s life is never the same after his first taste of a new recipe. Performed by Michael Herold, founding member of Forward Theater Company, and member of Actors’ Equity Association.
