The Depression Era and the WPA: The Survival and Legacy of the Artist

Christine Manke, Public Art Consultant for the Wisconsin Alumni Association and former Administrator for the Wisconsin Arts Board, will present "The Depression Era and the WPA: The Survival and Legacy of the Artist" detailing how artists survived during the Depression era. She gives a look at the various government programs that supported visual artists, with a special focus on the visual arts in Wisconsin. She asks, what was the legacy of these government arts programs on American cultural life?
